Sugar prices: MoI&P asked to refer case to CCP

Ministry of Industries and Production should refer the current case of "unjustified" increase in sugar prices to Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP). This decision was taken by the National Assembly Standing Committee on Industries and Production which met with Asad Umar in the chair. The committee expressed its serious concern regarding the increase in sugar price for domestic markets and recommended that M/o Industries and Production should refer the case to the Competition Commission of Pakistan to find out the reasons of the sugar price for domestic markets.
The Standing Committee discussed the working of the Leather Crafts Development Company (LCDC) and Spun Yarn Research & Development Company (SYRDC), Multan. During the meeting, presentation was given to the standing committee by the chief executive officer LCDC and SYRDC about the working of the companies. The standing committee unanimously recommended that both companies LCDC and SYRDC should be privatized.
The members of the standing committee who attended the meeting included Asad Umar (chairman), and MNAs Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Sajida Begum, Maulana Muhammad Gohar Shah and Iftikhar-ud-Din.
