The prices of essential kitchen items, especially of vegetables, skyrocketed during this week past as compared to the preceding week, a survey carried out by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday.
In wholesales market, onions price was recorded at Rs 3,300 per quintal against Rs 2,500 per quintal, tomatoes price also remained on high side as a 25-kg bag is being sold at Rs 1,200 against Rs 1000 per bag and potatoes with a reduction of Rs 500 per quintal are being sold at Rs 2,750 against Rs 3,250 per quintal. Potatoes are being sold at Rs 150 per 5kg against Rs 170 per 5kg, tomatoes at Rs 270 per 5kg, onions at Rs 270 per 5kg, garlic at Rs 750 per 5kg and ginger at Rs 700 per 5kg.
Tomatoes are being sold at Rs 60 per kg in retail market against Rs 50 per kg, potatoes at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 45-50 per kg, and onions at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 50 per kg, ginger at Rs 150 per kg and garlic at Rs 160-180 per kg.
However, during the week chicken prices witnessed a significant reduction which went down from Rs 5,000 per 40kg to Rs 4,000 per 40kg and in retail market it is being sold at Rs 110-120 per kg against Rs 140 per kg. Chicken meat price reduced from Rs 220-240 per kg to Rs 200 per kg, eggs price remained stable at Rs 95 per dozen in wholesales market which in retail are being sold at Rs 105-110 per dozen.
Okra price went down from Rs 270 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg which in retail is being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 70 per kg, tori price went up from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 260 per 5kg which in retail is being sold at Rs 60 per kg.
Peas' price went down from Rs 750 per 5kg to Rs 700 per 5kg which in retail are being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 180 per kg and beans price went up from Rs 350 per 5kg to Rs 375 per 5kg which in retail are being sold at Rs 80-90 per kg. Cauliflower price slightly went down from Rs 350 per 5kg to Rs 320 per 5kg which in retail is being sold at Rs 75 per kg. Cabbage price was found stable at Rs 150 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 40 per kg, capsicum price went up from Rs 260 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 70 per kg.
Lemon price went down from Rs 750 per 5kg to Rs 500 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 160 per kg. Brinjal price went down from Rs 170 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 45 per kg, cucumber price remained stable at Rs 300 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 70 per kg.
Tinda price was found stable at Rs 250 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 60 per kg; Kadu price further went up from Rs 230 per 5kg to Rs 250 per 5kg which in retail is being sold at Rs 60, kareela price went down from Rs 275 per 5kg to Rs 250 per 5kg which in retail is being sold at Rs 65 per kg against Rs 70 per kg.
The prices of all non-perishable kitchen items including rice, pulses, spices, sugar, tea and wheat flour remained stable during the week under review. Prices of all the major pulses witnessed no change as Massh is being sold at Rs 180 per kg, Channa (gram) at Rs 190 per kg, Lobia in the range of Rs 120-Rs 140 per kg, Moong at Rs 120 per kg and Masoor at Rs 110 per kg.
In the wholesale as well as retail markets, the prices of all the seasonal fruits remained stable as normal quality white apple is being sold at Rs 60 per kg, Chinese apple at Rs 200 per kg while New Zealand apples at Rs 250 per kg. Best quality grapes were found being sold at Rs 150 per kg, while its normal quality at Rs 120-100 per kg, best quality guava at Rs 60 per kg while its normal quality at Rs 40 per kg, and best quality chikoo was available at Rs 150 per kg and its normal quality at Rs 90 per kg.
Good quality local banana was available at Rs 70 per dozen, while its normal quality was available at Rs 40-50 per dozen, and Indian banana at Rs 120 per dozen. Plum was available at Rs 100 per kg, best quality peach was being sold at Rs 120 per kg while its normal quality was available in the range of Rs 80-100 per kg. Various varieties of mangoes were available in the range of Rs 80 per kg to Rs 140 per kg.
