Unidentified men shot dead a transgender in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) during the wee hours of Wednesday, the police said. Station House Officer (SHO) at Darakhshan Police Station Orangzaib told Business Recorder that the rare fatal attack on transgender community member occurred in Shahbaz Commercial Area in Phase VI.
Giving details of the incident he said four assailants initially threw eggs at the victim identified as Chanda and her friend from their moving vehicle (white colored vigo), provoking them to react on that. In the meantime, after some verbal brawl, the armed men left and again came back to the scene within a few minutes and opened fire on Chanda. The 20-year old victim received a fatal bullet wound at her upper torso and succumbed to injuries. The body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.
Police was clueless about the motive behind the killing; however they claimed to have initiated an investigation to find the culprits. "A First Investigation Report (FIR 440/2017) has been lodged against the unidentified men in the Darakhshan police station," the SHO said.
