Chairman, National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), Justice Ali Nawaz Chohan (retd) visited Bumborat village of the Kalash valley of Chitral as fact finding mission following some reports of violations of human rights of Kalash community.
The chairman was accompanied by Fazila Aiani, Member Balochistan, Syed Khizar Ali Shah, Director, Raza-ur-Rehman, Coordinator, Syed Ahsan Ayaz Kazmi, Coordinator and Syed Haider Ali Zafar, Coordinator besides other relevant authorities. Elites from three valleys of Kalash - Birir, Rumber and Bumborat attended open forum with chairman NCHR and briefed him about their problems. Saifullah Jan from Rumbor valley, Baharam Shah, Imran Kabir, Akram Hussain from Bumborat valley, Shah Hussain and Unat Baig councilors from Birir valley attended the session and informed him about different problems of their valleys.
The NCHR delegation was informed that there was no girl school or college in three valleys of Kalash as well as they were also facing lack of health facilities. The road condition is most deteriorated and sometimes patient expires before reaching to hospital. Chohan said NCHR was an independent organization, which plays an important role for protection of human rights of people. The chairman NCHR also visited Kalash Dur, Museum and Kalash school where he was briefed by elders Akram Hussain, Imran Kabir regarding conservation of Kalash culture in this museum and primary school for Kalash students.
