After the end of Eid-ul-Azha holidays, the election campaign in the bye-election of NA-120 has started picking up momentum and the candidates are using every mean to get support of voters of the constituency. Although there are over three dozen candidates in the run, the real contest is expected between the PML-N and PTI candidates. The ruling PML-N has fielded ousted prime minister's wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz as its candidate. In her absence, her daughter Maryam Nawaz is spearheading the campaign.
Maryam is not only regularly visiting the constituency but also holding meetings with the supporters of PML-N. Maryam is also set to kick off her door-to-door campaign in NA-120 constituency. Maryam remained busy even during the Eid holidays in canvassing along with women party workers. On Tuesday, Maryam Nawaz also addressed a gathering of PML-N workers near MAO College. She led a rally in the constituency and also inaugurated the party office in the area of Krishan Nager.
Speaking on the occasion, Maryam said that NA-120 is the constituency from where Nawaz was elected thrice. On September 17, people would vote for the PML-N for bringing prosperity and restoring sanctity of ballot papers. She said the PML-N has initiated record development projects in the country. "The opponents of development works in Lahore are asking for votes in bye-elections. People must hold them accountable on September 17 for their opposition to developmental works," she said.
On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Dr Yasmeen Rashid said the PML-N was misusing everything to win the bye-election of NA-120. The PTI has also displayed banners in the constituency with words inscribed on them: "Thank you Imran Khan - construction of roads and streets has been started." Yasmeen Rashid is also visiting door-to-door and set up an election office at Temple Road.
