A board member of the Mauritius Chamber and president of the Pakistan-Mauritius Joint Business Council, Shehzad Abdullah Ahmed, has said that Mauritius is a gateway to 47 African countries which can be accessed via Mauritius by Karachi's business and industrial community.
Speaking at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), he said Mauritius offers profitable business in different sectors of the economy particularly fisheries, real-estate development, agriculture, textiles and pharmaceuticals.
The MoU had already been signed by MCCI president Azim Currimjee in the Mauritian capital of Port Louis, in the presence of the charge d'affaires of the Pakistani High Commission in Mauritius, Zahid Ahmed Khan Jatoi. It was brought to Karachi by Shehzad Abdullah Ahmed for signing by KCCI president Shamim Ahmed Firpo.
Under the MoU, the two chambers agree to increased bilateral cooperation between industrialists, businessmen and entrepreneurs. They also recognize the possibilities of growth, development and promotion of bilateral trade, investment and tourism, KCCI president Shamim Ahmed Firpo said that the existing volume of trade between the two countries is not sufficient, which is why the Karachi Chamber was keen to have an MoU signed with the Mauritian Chamber.
