To meet growing demand of water in the provincial capital, the WASA has decided to add water from the Ravi and BRB Canal into WASA water supply system. WASA will also install water treatment plants at Shahdara, Mahmood Booti and Shad Bagh. In this connection, Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz visited these areas to inspect the sites for the water treatment plants on Thursday.
On the occasion, the WASA MD said it is important to draw water from the river and BRB Canal and supply it to the households after its treatment. He observed that keeping in view the city's exponential population growth and growing demand for water, it is imperative to take measure on emergency basis.
"In the first phase, the irrigation department will supply more than 100 cusec from Bedian Link Canal and after its treatment the water will be added into the WASA water supply system. This will help in meeting the water demand of the city," he added.
He pointed out that water level in the city is decreasing and hence they need to include it from the river and BRB Canal in the WASA water supply system. "This will stabilize the water level in the city," MD WASA added.
