The Lahore High Court on Monday stayed implementation of a notification regarding levy of fee on cold storages for being involved in business of agriculture products. The court issued notice to Agriculture Department for fortnight in a petition of Sahiwal Cold Storage Association.
The association through a petition challenged the order of special secretary agricultural requiring the cold storages to obtain licenses and pay fee alleging they were involved in sale/ purchase of agriculture produce.
Representing the association, Taffazul Haider Rizvi argued that the special secretary had wrongly determined that the cold storages undertook "act of processing". He said the cold storages only provided ambient temperature for storing potato seeds and other agriculture produce.
