KBP to issue 'white paper' against land mafia in Punjab

30 Sep, 2017

The Kissan Board Pakistan (KBP) has decided to issue a white paper about people who have illegally grabbed pond areas of 14 head works, sem nullahs and water courses spreading over thousands acres of land. KBP Central President Chaudhry Nisar Ahmad while talking to a delegation of farmers here on Friday directed the different local organisations of his party to collect facts and figures about the illegal occupation of pond areas and land of other irrigation facilities in the province to release a white paper about it.
He said such illegal occupants were not only occupying 2800 acre of land in Head Balloki area but also carrying out farming thus depriving the department and the provincial government of billions of rupees.
The chief of Kissan Board urged the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to look into this matter and get this government land vacated. He said that some influential people were involved in such illegal occupation. They, in connivance with the irrigation department, divert water during flood and rainy season towards fields of small farmers instead of releasing this excessive water in pond areas allocated for the purpose. This ruins the crops of small farmers and renders them bankrupt.
He wondered that the Chief Minister Punjab who claims to fight 'jihad' against Qabza Groups also seems helpless against these illegal occupants.
The KBP leader urged that Rangers should be deployed for initiating action against land grabbers in Punjab on the pattern of Karachi. He also urged the government to enact a law proposing death penalty for land grabbers.
