Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abbas Ahsan said on Saturday that the prime objective of road safety drive was to ensure timely and prompt response by drivers in case a vehicle caught fire after a road accident before the arrival of emergency services.
The DIG said that this drive would also inculcate a sense of safety amongst the passengers and road users travelling on national highways, said a press release here on Saturday. The DIG said that strict action would be taken against unauthorised/illegal number plates on vehicles, while action would also be taken against the installation of police emergency lights in private vehicles.
DIG Abbas said that well trained and special briefing officers had been deputed on all toll plazas of N-5 North Zone to brief and train drivers regarding proper use of fire extinguishers and first aid box to avoid casualties. He said that Mobile Education Units (MEUs) of N-5 North Zone would also visit the PSV terminals to directly interact with drivers in an effort to educate them regarding the importance of practicing road safety.
