'Modern central lab to be established in Lahore'

Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Najam Ahmed Shah has said that a state-of-the-art central lab would be established in Lahore for which services of international institutions would be hired and for this purpose international tenders would soon be invited.
He stated this during a meeting chaired by the Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Kh Salman Rafiq to discuss the project of setting up of the central lab in Lahore with the Ghazi Group and Emsey Hospital Ankara, Turkey, here in Lahore.
Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College, Professor Rashid Zia, Medical Superintendent Jinnah Hospital, Dr Sohail Saqlain, Consultant Health Department, Dr Zahid Pervaiz, Dr Yaddullah, representatives from Ghazi Group Mehmet Dal, H Alp Yarpuz, Neslihan Dal and Dr Jihad Mahli, Murat Bultek and Murat Tutuncu of Emsey Hospital, Ankara and Turkish Consultant of Health Department Punjab Dr Hassan Kagil and other officers of Health Department Punjab were also present in the meeting.
Deliberations were made on the project by the Minister and Secretary Health with the Turkish Group. Khawaja Salman Rafiq said that the basic objective for setting up a state-of-the-art central lab is to provide high standard diagnostic and treatment facilities to the patients. He said that Pathological services would be outsourced. However, this facility would be provided to the poor and deserving patients free of cost according to the policy of the Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He further said that different options are under consideration for establishing the laboratory including construction of purpose built building for the lab at an open place and hiring of a building for the laboratory. He said that both options being discussed and decision would be taken according to the recommendations of the technical experts.
Secretary Specialized Healthcare, while talking to the Turkish experts said that Punjab government would go in a transparent process for pre-qualification of the firms and international tenders would be invited soon for awarding the contract of the project.
