The American Consul General at Lahore, Elizabeth Trudeau, called on the chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Senator Sirajul Haq, at Mansoora on Wednesday. The JI chief welcomed the US diplomat at Masnsoora on her first visit and expressed the hope that she would play her role in nullifying the negative propaganda in respect of this country. She was accompanied by In-Charge, political and regional affairs at the Consulate, Meghan Mercier.
Sirajul Haq expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation in Kashmir and said that the prompt solution of the Kashmir issue was necessary for peace and stability in the region. He said that the entire region was on the tip of the volcano because of Indian's brutalities on the Kashmiris. He said if the world desired peace, the Kashmir issue must be resolved in accordance with the Kashmiris' aspirations.
He also drew the attention of the US diplomat toward the miserable plight of the Rohingya Muslims in Burma and said it was astonishing that the US and the world bodies were not discharging their duties in this regard.
Continuing, the JI chief said that the people of Pakistan desired peace and revival of democratic system in Afghanistan whereas some regional powers wanted Afghanistan to become a centre of intrigues against this country. He said the Afghan people were paying the cost of these conspiracies for the last four decades. He said that a dialogue with all the Afghan factions could provide a basis for peace in the country.
Sirajul Haq said that the people of Pakistan had serious reservations over the US government's statements about this country. He said that positive measures by the US could remove these reservations. The US Consul General said that the people acknowledged the democratic character of the JI and its corruption free and transparent leadership.
