The new set of trains for the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train is manufactured as per international standard and it will provide economical, safe, swift and comfortable mode of commuting to low income people. Khawaja Ahmad Haassan, chairman of the steering committee for Lahore Orange Line Metro Train Project (LOMTP), observed this while chairing a weekly progress review meeting held here on Wednesday.
He informed the meeting that a total of 27 trains will be operated under the LOMTP and each train will comprise of five carriages. "Every compartment of the train is 20 meters long with 60 seats and it will accommodate 200 passengers. Separate seats have been reserved for elderly, disabled and women in these carriages. A public announcement system is also installed in the train. Moreover, an energy-saving air-conditioning system suitable for the constant high summer temperature in Pakistan has been designed and installed in the train," he added.
He also informed the officials that the Chinese contractor, CR-NORINCO, has issued a schedule for the arrival of locomotives for the train in Lahore. As many as 23 train sets will arrive Lahore by the end of this year and coaches for all the 27 trains will be available in Lahore by the mid of March 2018.
