Updated 23 Nov, 2018

Disney’s remake of the 1994 cult classic The Lion King just got its very first live-action trailer, during the NFL’s traditional Thanksgiving primetime game.

In the trailer, we can see what look like the opening moments of the movie, in which Rafiki presents a young Simba to the animals of the Pride Lands, with the quintessential shot of Simba being hoisted above the rock. The movie looks promising keeping the true essence of the original classic.

In the movie, young Simba will be voiced by JD McCrary while adult Simba will be handled by Donald Glover. The rest of the cast has been revealed as well, including Beyoncé as an adult Nala, John Oliver as Zazu and James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa.

In addition to the trailer, Disney also unveiled a poster for the film, which shows a baby Simba stepping into his father’s footsteps. The 1994 Lion King was an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and went on to gross close to $1 billion worldwide throughout its many theatrical runs. It was nominated for two Academy Awards as well.

The movie which will also have a special song by Beyonce and Elton John will hit theatres on July 19,2019.
