Emergency Operations Center Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to carry out case response in Lakki Marwat, D I Khan, Hangu, Karak, Tank, Bannu and Hangu districts of the province following the report of the polio case from Lakki Marwat district last month.
According to the press release issued by Emergency Operations Center (EOC) KP, the special campaign will start from October 9 October 11, 2017 followed by one day catch-up in the six districts. A total of 0.967 million children will be vaccinated against polio in the case response for which 3,427 total teams have been constituted out of which 3,385 were mobile teams, 266 fixed, 215 transit while 61 were roaming teams.
Moreover, strict security measures have been taken to ensure smooth conduct of the campaign and to provide security cover to the Sehat Muhafiz. A total of 5,561 security personal have been deployed in Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Hangu, Tank, D I Khan and Karak district where the campaign will be conducted. The case response has been planned to stop virus transmission in the region and to protect the children from polio.
It is worth mentioning that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has made a significant progress in polio eradication and has remained polio free for more than year before the first polio case was recorded on 21st, 2017. A two-year-old Zunaira from Tajori Union Council of Lakki Marwat tested positive for polio last month which prompted the case response in Lakki Marwat and adjoining districts.
