World Post Day: post office to introduce mobile money transaction solution by end of the year

Pakistan Post Office (PPO) is going to introduce mobile money transaction solution and a logistic service under public-private partnership by the end of 2017 and 2018, respectively.
"The move will help the government-run postal service to deal with the challenges of modern digital era, besides competing with the private courier and money transferring services," said Aslam Khan Niazi, Postmaster General Sindh, addressing a ceremony, held at the office of the Postmaster General Metropolitan Circle in connection with the World Post Day, here on Monday. The hoisting of flag was followed by the programme. Retired and serving postal officers and staff attended the event.
Niazi further said that the cargo parcel service would provide latest technology-based facilities to the general public across the country whereas the mobile money transaction solution would convert the PPO's manual money transfer services into latest digital system.
"Pakistan Post will overcome the current Rs 7 billion annual deficit and will be turned into a profitable organisation soon after the logistic service and money transaction businesses get functional, he hoped elaborating the role of Pakistan Post in economic development of Pakistan and reshaping trend of Postal Services catering to the need of common men.
He also urged the staff to improve delivery standards to win back the trust/confidence of common men. He said that the objective of the World Post Day is to create general awareness about the role of postal sector and its contribution to the social and economic development of the country. He said they celebrate this day in order to make the people aware of the rich history of transformation in the postal sector, which has always been able to find its place in the world market.
Earlier, message from Bishar A Hussein, Director General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) was read out by Akbar Ali Dero, Postmaster General, Metropolitan Circle, Karachi. In his message, the DG UPU stressed on the postal sector to keep them updated with the ongoing changes in the world. "The postal sector plays a vital role in our society. Internet pervasiveness is growing year by year and customers are demanding more in this age of digital and mobile technology," he said, urging the member countries of the UPU to adopt new technology and embrace transformation.
Dero also narrated about recently renovated section on the ground floor of Karachi GPO to facilitate retired pensioners, recent reconstruction of Korangi GPO building and renovation of various GPOs/Post Offices including Hyderi GPO, Defence HPO and Gulshan-e-Iqbal HPO as per new standards.
