The approval for funds for Consultancy for HMIS in Tertiary Care Hospitals in Punjab under Health Reform & Revamp and Health Informatics (HMIS) project was the only item on agenda of PDWP's meeting on Tuesday. It is worth mentioning that Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) are one of the six building blocks essential for health system strengthening. HMIS is a data collection system specifically designed to support planning, management, and decision-making in health facilities and organizations.
This system will be set up in major hospitals that usually have full services including pediatrics, general medicine, various branches of surgery and psychiatry. Patients are often referred from smaller hospitals to a tertiary hospital for major operations, consultations with sub-specialists and when sophisticated intensive care facilities are required.
