The Karachi Port handled 192,139 tonnes of cargo comprising 144,254 tonnes of import cargo and 47,885 tonnes of export cargo including 8,746 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 144,254 tonnes comprised of 58,827 tonnes of containerised cargo; 9,502 tonnes of general cargo; 33,965 tonnes of bulk cargo: 18,615 tonnes of coal; 4,210 tonnes of seeds; 6,650 tonnes of rock phosphate; 4,490 tonnes of palm kernel expeller and 41,960 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 47,885 tonnes comprised of 39,598 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,287 tonnes of urea and 5,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 8,746 containers comprising of 3,866 containers import and 4,880 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,648 of 20's and 1,108 of 40's loaded while 02 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,054 of 20's and 503 of 40's loaded containers while 1,058 of 20's and 881 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were five ships namely Alexandria Bridge, New Ark, Hyundai Brave, Al Rawdah and MT Karachi carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were five vessels viz. CMA CGM Narmada, Al Rawdah, Wide India, Sima Genesis and YM Orchid carrying containers respectively currently at the berths. There were two ships namely Cosco Durban and Maersk Tacoma carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while two ships namely Wide India and Minerva Indiana carrying containers and oil tanker respectively are expected to sail on Wednesday.
There were five vessels CMA CGM Puget, Arabian Orchid, Nord Larkspur, Ocean Colossus and Seastar Empress carrying containers, mogas, urea and DAP respectively due to arrive on Tuesday while six vessels viz. Kota Kasturi, MSC Kerry, Sima Giselle, MT Shalamar, Asian Champion and AM Ocean Silver carrying containers, oil tanker, coal and DAP respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.
