AG, minister mull over GSP Plus status

Attorney General for Pakistan Ashtar Ali Ausaf and Federal Commerce Minister Pervaiz Malik deliberated upon legal aspects of continuation of GSP Plus status in the country to develop a comprehensive approach and prepare a mid-term review plan due in January 2018.
The federal government had restructured Treaty Implementation Cell (TIC) in order to improve compliance of 27 UN Conventions signed by Pakistan. Attorney General for Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf Ali is the convenor of the TIC with an objective for Pakistan's coordination with global partners working in the areas of human and labour rights.
Talking to Business Recorder, Ashtar Ali Ausaf said that during a meeting with Federal Commerce Minister Pervaiz Malik on Wednesday, they deliberated upon various legal aspects of the GSP+ facility assurance in the country. Ashtar Ali Ausaf informed that Pakistan will attend meeting with Members of European Parliament (MEPs) and the governments of the EU member during the next week for continuation of the facility.
Ashtar Ausaf Ali and Pervaiz Malik will highlight during the meeting the significant progress that Pakistan has made to implement the core conventions in the country. It is important to mention here that Pakistan has not ratified any convention relating to capital punishment.
