The Department of Poultry Production of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) observed "World Egg Day" in a befitting manner here on Friday. Various activities, including seminar, walk and egg dishes, egg shell model-making and egg-eating contests were organized to create awareness about the nutritional value of egg and its importance for the growth of human body.
PPA Northern Zone Chairman Dr Arshad Hanif Chaudhry presided the seminar while UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Rai Mansab Ali Kharl, Dr Abdul Kareem Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Prof Dr Anjum Khalique, Dr Mustafa Kammal, Chairman Department of Poultry Production Prof Dr Athar Mehmood, Raza Mehmood Khurs and number of poultry industry representatives from public & private sectors were present.
In his address, Dr Arshad Hanif Chaudhry said that eggs have a vital role in feeding people around the world, both developed and developing countries. He thanked UVAS leadership for arranging World Egg Day in befitting manner. He shared his past memories and said he is an alumnus of UVAS. He advised students to work hard with dedication and focus on study and play vital role for the development of poultry sector along with PPA.
Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that egg is an excellent and affordable source of high quality protein, with the potential to feed the world. He also said that with the support of electronic media it is direly needed to create awareness among consumers.
