The National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change Friday recommended that a third party evaluation and monitoring mechanism of Green Pakistan Program should be devised to ensure proper implementation of the project. A meeting of the committee was held here in the Parliament House with MNA Muhammad Uzair in the chair. The focal person on Green Pakistan Project briefed the committee members about the progress in plantation of trees across the country.
The government launched the program in February this year and promised to plant around 100 million trees across the country under the project. The committee members also expressed their concern over cutting the precious trees on the Embassy Road Islamabad and recommended to take strict action against those who are involved in it.
A representative of the Ministry of Climate Change, however, expressed his ignorance about cutting of the trees on the Embassy Road, saying that it comes in the jurisdiction of the Capital Development Authority (CDA). The representative of Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) briefed the committee members about the working policy of growing seeds of different crops. The committee recommended that climate resilient policy should be prepared in this respect.
The committee was also briefed about the report regarding addition of the poisonous substance to water in the Rawal Dam. The committee showed dissatisfaction over the briefing and recommended that all concerned departments should present a combined report on the issue.
