IRSA to review water situation for Rabi season tomorrow

31 Oct, 2017

Indus River System Authority (Irsa) has convened an emergency meeting of IRSA Advisory Committee on 1st November 2017 to review the water situation in the country for Rabi season 2017. To be presided over by Chairman Irsa, the meeting will be attended by the representatives of provinces, federal flood commission and Wapda.
Informed sources told Business Recorder that water shortage will increase for provinces due to current water availability. Recently Irsa stopped releases from Mangla reservoir for electricity generation due to substantial shortage. On September 29, 2017, Irsa estimated 20 per cent shortage in water share of Punjab and Sindh each in Rabi season commenced from October 1, 2017. However, KPK and Balochistan are exempted from shortage.
