Digital ways in farming: farmers to be provided with smart phones

The agriculture department in collaboration with Agriculture Delivery Unit (ADU) arranged a seminar on 'Digital Day' to understand the use of digital communication technology for betterment of the agriculture sector. Silwat Saeed, Special Secretary for Agriculture Marketing while chairing the session said that Facebook has also gained popularity among the general people including farmers. In this era of digital communication technology, people no longer need to meet each other in person to share opinions. They can do all these things online with the added benefit of sharing with a larger audience.
Due to this advantage, the agriculture department created Facebook page for creating awareness among farmers on latest technologies and updates. Till date, 0.65 million people had liked this page and their feedback was being monitored on regular basis. The department was also planning to create a Twitter account for latest information dissemination through this channel.
Silwat Saeed also disclosed that the agriculture department is going to provide smart phones to farmers for timely awareness about weather forecast, right use of fertilizer, information about prices of marketing commodities on android smart phone. The department will also send agricultural videos of crops about latest production technologies. During first phase of this project, 110,000 farmers will get smart phones. Silwat Saeed also congratulated ADU and Directorate of Agricultural Information Punjab for organizing awareness seminar about digital communication technology for all stakeholders.
