Pir Kaleem Khurshid of Independent Group led by Asma Jahangir was elected as president Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for year 2017-18 here on Tuesday. According to unofficial results, Pir Khurshid secured 1145 votes in a one-on-one contest with Hafiz Abdul Rehman Ansari of Hamid Khan-led Professional group who bagged 1062.
For slot of secretary candidate of independent group Safdar Hussain Tarar also elected after getting 1098 votes. His opponent Mian Muhammad Aslam obtained only 638 votes. While Qamar Zaman Qureshi nominee of independent group was elected as vice president on Punjab seat. Polling was held in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Islamabad /Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, Abbotabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sukkhur and Hyderabad. Former chief justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, former chief justice of LHC Khwaja Muhammad Sharif, former governors of Punjab Khwaja Tariq Rahim, Shahid Hamid and Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, retired justice Malik Muhammad Qayyum, Ali Ahmad Kurd, Asma Jahangir, Hamid Khan were among the prominent who cast their votes in Lahore.
