Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) has announced new dates for the Second Thal Desert Jeep Rally, which will now be held between November 18 and 19. Initially, the rally was planned for November 11, disclosed a TDCP's spokesperson here on Thursday. The TDCP started this rally last year to explore and lure the tourist towards beautiful Thal desert.
The Rally would start from Head Muhammad Wala (in Muzaffargarh) and after a round circuit of around 180 km will end at the same point with midpoint at tehsil Choubara, District Layyah. The desert stage is set for the thrilling event that will highlight the regional culture and colours. This event will also contribute to the socio-economic uplift of the area. More than 80 leading drivers will challenge the sand of Thal desert. According to the spokesperson, the main objective of the rally is to promote local culture and historical heritage, highlighting the southern Punjab and its desert for the promotion of tourism as well as international tourism in the area, provide economic opportunities for the locals, setup a forum for inter-provincial harmony among the people and intensify the passion for motor sport.
"Due to overwhelming popularity of Cholistan Jeep Rally, it was persistently demanded by the people of Muzaffargarh and Layyah to organize a jeep rally in the unique landscape of Thal desert. After due consideration, the Punjab government organized the Thal Jeep Rally in District Muzaffargarh and Layyah in 2016, which proved very successful," he added.
