'Black Day' went by unnoticed

04 Nov, 2017

The day of November 3 passed unnoticed this year. Every year this day has been observed as 'black day' by the legal fraternity to condemn emergency imposed by General Pervez Musharraf (retd) in the country. Musharraf had imposed emergency in the country on November 03, 2007 and removed judges of the higher and superior courts for not taking oath under Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO). Some senior judges were also detained for refusing oath under the infamous PCO.
Since then the legal fraternity has been observing the day of November 3 as a "black-day" by holding protest meetings, hoisting black flags on the bar's premises and appearing before courts wearing black armbands. Secretary Lahore High Court Bar Association Amir Saeed Rawn while defending his stance on non-observance of black day said, "The dictator has become a past". He said the democracy had made the dictator to live in isolation outside the country and there was no valid reason to keep observing the black-day on November-3.
