Indian Tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi in a recent interview revealed that his actor wife Lara Dutta complained to him about director Sajid Khan’s rude and vulgar behavior to co-stars while she was shooting for the first part of ‘Housefull’.
“When we were dating, she was shooting for Housefull and we were in London at that time. She would come home and her closest friend was her hair dresser and they both would be complaining about how one of her co-stars was being treated by the director. Rude, vulgar,” Bhupathi said in conversation with journalist Barkha Dutt.
Bhupathi recalled he told the actor how all four of you, who were working in the film, were complicit in enabling Sajid’s behaviour. “I told her you guys are all complicit, all the four of you who were in the film (and) were listening to what he was saying and not telling him it’s not ok. So at some level you guys are complicit and she agreed,” he said, Indian media reported.
Journalist also asserted that if your work is depending on someone then it’s sometimes difficult to raise voice against him. To which, Bhupathi said that the fear of losing work is valid but not big enough to not speak against a perpetrator. Mahesh also criticised top Bollywood stars, without naming any, for not speaking on #MeToo openly.
The first film of 'Houseful' franchise starred Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone, Jiah Khan and Lara in the lead roles.
Sajid has recently had a quite birthday this year on November 23 as nobody wanted to be seen wishing him. He was accused of sexual harassment by several women in the industry during the recent #MeToo wave and since then he has lost his job and has been left alone.
