The Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed parties to come up with more arguments on November 9 in response to a petition challenging the appointment of Absar Alam as Chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra). The court expressed dismay over a civil miscellaneous application moved by Absar Alam's lawyer who showed himself as party in the case. The court observed that how a lawyer could become a party while representing others' case. On it, the lawyers tendered his apology and withdrew his application.
The respondent's lawyer said that Absar Alam was appointed in accordance with the rules and regulations of Pemra. However, the petitioner's counsel Azhar Siddique opposed him and said that he was given favour through that appointment and was drawing hefty amount as salary.
