Judge Athar Minallah took oath on Wednesday as the chief justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

President Arif Alvi administered the oath to Judge Minallah in a ceremony at the Presidential House. The ceremony was attended by judges of IHC, federal ministers and parliamentarians, local media reported.

Judge Minallah has replaced Judge Anwar Khan Kasi who retired on Tuesday. Judge Minallah is the third chief justice of the IHC since its establishment in 2011.

On November 1, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar had recommended Judge Minallah as the new chief justice of IHC. The judge's name was then approved by President Alvi.
