How ironic it is that US president Donald Trump has doubts about the fact that man-made emissions are the main cause of rising global temperatures. This Doubting Thomas has certainly jeopardized the prospects of global talks. The UN Secretary General Antonio Gutterres, however, has made it clear that government should put a price on carbon emissions to help combat global warming and stop making bad bets on fossil fuel. He made these remarks at talks on a climate pact weakened by a US pullout.
According to media reports, Gutterres told almost 200 nations in Bonn, where they are working on details of the 2015 Paris climate agreement that aims to end the fossil fuel era this century, that a shift to cleaner energies would boost rather than hamper economic growth.
The US president is oblivious of rise in global temperature, warming oceans, shrinking ice sheets, glacial retreat, decreased snow cover, sea level rise, declining Arctic Sea ice, extreme events, ocean acidification, etc. Trump must stop promoting domestic fossil fuels.
