The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) on Thursday arrested 23 Indian fishermen for fishing illegally in Pakistani territorial waters. An official of PMSA said that the Indian fishermen were arrested for violating territorial waters and their six fishing boats were impounded by the authority. The PMSA handed over the held fishermen to the Docks police and they would be produced in court on Friday.
The Docks police registered a case against the arrested Indian fishermen under Sections 3/4 of the Foreigners Act and 3/9 of the Fisheries Act. The two countries frequently carry out such arrests as the maritime border in the Arabian Sea is poorly defined and many fishing boats lack the technology needed to be certain of their precise location.
