Prices of essential kitchen items witness declining trend

Prices of essential kitchen items witnessed a significant reduction during this week past against the preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday. The survey observed that prices of most of the vegetables and fruits during this week witnessed a decline while the prices of non-perishable daily use items including rice, spices, pulses, wheat flour and others remained stable.
Chicken prices further came down from Rs 4,200 per 40kg to Rs 4,000 per 40kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 125 per kg, while chicken meat is being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 180 per kg. There remained no change in eggs prices which are available at Rs 105 per dozen in wholesale market while in retail market they are still being sold at Rs 115-120 per dozen.
During the week under review, prices of the entire non-perishable kitchen remained stable as best quality rice was available at Rs 130 per kg, wheat at Rs 750 per 20kg bag and sugar was being sold at Rs 60 per kg. Prices of all the major pulses witnessed no change as Maash was being sold at Rs 180 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 200 per kg, Lobia in the range of Rs 120-140 per kg, Moong at Rs 120 per kg and Masoor at Rs 110 per kg.
Tomatoes price further came down from Rs 1,600 to Rs 1,300 per 15kg box, onions price also reduced from Rs 400 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg and potatoes price came down from Rs 180 per 5kg to Rs 170 per 5kg. In retail market, onion was being sold at Rs 70 per kg, tomatoes at Rs 100 per kg and potatoes at Rs 45 per kg.
The price of various qualities of garlic witnessed no change as local garlic was being sold at Rs 400 per 5kg, while Chinese garlic was being sold at Rs 600 per kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 120-150 per kg. Ginger price also remained stable at Rs 500 per 5kg which in retail is being sold at Rs 120 per kg.
Spinach price remained unchanged which was being sold at Rs 100 per 5kg in wholesales market while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 15 per bundle. Mint price went down from Rs 80 per 5kg to Rs 70 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 15 per bundle.
Capsicum price went further down from Rs 570 per 5kg to Rs 500 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 130 per kg against Rs 140 per kg, peas price went up from Rs 650 per 5kg to Rs 750 per 5kg in wholesales market, which in retail were being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 150 per kg and taro's (arvi) price went up from Rs 150 per 5kg to Rs 170 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 45 per kg, carrot price went down from Rs 200 to Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 50 per kg and a pack of 8kg radish price went down from Rs 150 per pack to Rs 140 per pack which in retail market was being sold at Rs 25 per kg.
Okra price went up from Rs 230 to Rs 250 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60 per kg, price of tori remained stable at Rs 250 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 70 per kg. Cauliflower price went down from Rs 150 to Rs 100 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 30 per kg against Rs 40 per kg and cabbage price remained also stable at Rs 200 per 5 kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg. Lemon price remained stable at Rs 500 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 120 per kg, brinjal price went up from Rs 100 to Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 30 per kg, cucumber price remained stable at Rs 180 per 5kg, while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 50 per kg.
Price of apple gourd (tinda) went down from Rs 150 to Rs 120 per 5 kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg; pumpkin (kaddu) price went down from Rs 200 to Rs 120 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 50/55 per kg, bitter gourd (karela) price reduced from Rs 200 to Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 60 per kg.
Fruit prices witnessed no significant change during the week under review as good quality banana was available at Rs 70 per dozen and normal quality banana at Rs 40-50 per dozen. Best quality guava was available at Rs 50 per kg and normal quality guava at Rs 40 per kg. Pomegranate were available Rs 1,600 per box of 16kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 150 per kg.
