Prices of vegetable, poultry and other essential kitchen items plummet, except rates of pulses, fresh milk, sugar and flour, still remain on high side in the retail market, according to a weekly survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday. A visit to the local market in the provincial capital, prices of vegetable have been decreased from 20 to 30 per cent, however, rates of all kind of pulses remained firm in market.
A five-kilogram onion is being sold at Rs 300, which was selling at Rs 450 in the preceding week, while price of tomato also decreased as five-kg available at Rs 400 against Rs 500 (five-kg) in the previous week. The five-kilogram rate of red potato was remained unchanged as available at Rs 300, while five kilogram old seasonal potato is being sold at Rs 200 in local market.
However, the price of five kilogram ginger has gone up as available at Rs 1,200 against Rs 1000 in previous week, while a five-kg garlic had declined, which is being at Rs 500 against Rs 1000. A five kilogram cucumber is available at Rs 200, against the Rs 300 during preceding week. One kilogram of green chilli is being sold at Rs 60, which was selling at Rs 120 during the preceding week.
In the market, prices of Shimla Mirch, lady finger and peas have decreased as available at Rs 80, Rs 70 and Rs 40 per kilogram respectively. A five-kg Arvi is available at Rs 200 which was selling at Rs 350. Almost, prices of other veggies also registered a decline of 50 to 70 per cent, as a five-kg Calabash is available at Rs 120, turnip at Rs 100 per five-kilogram. A gaddi of red reddish is available at Rs 15. Traders in local market said prices of pulses and other food grains have not been declined, because its rates variation dependent on production and yield.
According to the survey, a mix trend was witnessed in prices of pulses in retail market. According to survey, good quality sela rice is being sold at Rs 120 against Rs 125 per kg, showing a decrease of Rs 5 per kg. Similarly, one kilogram moong is available at Rs 120, Dal Channa at Rs 140 per kg and R160 per kg, Malka masoor is being sold at Rs 120 per kg, big kabali Channa selling at Rs 200 per kg, red bean at Rs 140 per kg, Dal mash green at Rs 180 per kg. Dal mash yellow Rs 140 per kg, Dotti dal at Rs 120 per kg. A 49-kg bag of sugar is being available at Rs 2300.
The survey further noted that prices of various brands of ghee/cooking oil remained steady, as 16-kilogram tin available with range of Rs 1710 to Rs 2380, while prices of cooking oil also firm, as a tin of 16-kilogram is available at Rs 2630, Rs 2300, Rs 2400 and Rs 2680.
Similarly, according to the survey, chicken meat is being sold at Rs 138 per kg, while live chicken available with range of Rs 280-300, which was selling at Rs 270 and Rs 250 during the preceding week. A dozen of egg is being sold at Rs 140 against Rs 100-110 during the preceding week. One litre of fresh milk is being sold at Rs 90, Rs 80 and Rs 70, and yogurt at Rs 90. Beef is available at Rs 350 per kilogram, while mutton being sold at Rs 700 per kg and Rs 750 per kilogram.
