BW INTEGRITY, the brand new Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) on a 15 year charter to Pakistan GasPort Consortium Limited (PGPC), is now owned by BW FSRU II Private Limited - a joint venture between BW Group and Mitsui & Co. with a 51-49 split. This is the first FSRU project for Mitsui, and the first project for a Japanese company in Pakistan's fast growing LNG sector. This is BW's second FSRU project, with the first being BW integrity's sister vessel, BW Singapore, which is deployed in Egypt on a five-year charter.
BW integrity, originally called by us its hull number SN2118, was manufactured by Samsung Heavy Industries. The christening of the FSRU took place at Samsung's Geoje shipyard in South Korea on Jan. 12, 2017. The brand-new vessel was formally named by its godmother, Mrs. Saira Ahmed, who read the encomium, cut the ceremonial rope with an axe, and officially declared SN2118 the BW integrity. Representatives from PGPC, BW, Samsung, Trafigura, Pakistan LNG Terminals Limited (PLTL) and Port Qasim Authority (PQA) attended the ceremony.
Despite the country's first LNG policy being launched in 2006, Pakistan only commenced LNG imports in 2015. Today, Pakistan whose energy mix is heavily reliant on natural gas, is a go to destination for global LNG suppliers and investors. Demand for imported LNG in Pakistan is expected to grow steadily and reach 20 million tons per annum by 2022.
