Eradication of corruption top most priority: NAB chief

Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) former Justice Javed Iqbal has said that elimination of corruption is the top most priority of the NAB. Addressing the officers of the NAB, Justice Javed Iqbal said that now a change would be visible in working of the NAB.
The aim of NAB was not to take revenge from any province, party or individual. Country owed $84 billion of foreign debt. The NAB is committed to recover looted money from the corrupt by pursuing zero tolerance policy. The NAB believes in forcing the corrupt to stand in the dock and depositing the looted money into the national exchequer. The NAB would provide sufficient evidence against the corrupt to enable the courts to convict them, according to a press release issued here on Tuesday.
He said that the NAB has filed 96 mega corruption cases out of a total of 179 cases in relevant courts. Inquiries are being continued in 25 cases of mega corruption while investigations are being continued in 25 corruption cases. He directed all Regional NAB to submit report on mega corruption cases within 3 months, he said.
The chairman NAB has said that he has decided to evaluate performance of regional NAB offices. He directed NAB officials to file case in honorable court after collecting sufficient evidence along with relevant details of each case. He warned that Police Station culture in NAB would not be tolerated. Now onwards the NAB would take care of self-respect of every one as law prohibits NAB from the wrong use of it laws. The whole nation pinned hopes on NAB for elimination of corruption. NAB officers must adhere themselves to law of the land as over affiliation are only with the country.
The NAB will have to take mega corruption cases, white collar crimes to the logical conclusion. The NAB officers have been given training to enable them to meet present day's challenges. NAB has established a Forensic Laboratory in Islamabad. Corrupt, inept officers have no place in NAB. Honesty, efficiency and professional competence would be encouraged in NAB.
He said he himself will look after seniority, appointments and promotion cases of all NAB officers as per law. No discrimination will be done against any officer. Adherence to law would be promoted in NAB. He said corruption could be eliminated from the country with iron hands. Corruption could be eliminated from the country be strictly observing zero tolerance policy and working of officer as a team. He said elimination of corruption would be a national service and also guarantee for better future of the country. NAB must not be used as a point scoring tool but the NAB believes across the board accountability.-PR
