The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday arrested seven people in Gujrat who were reportedly being despatched by a Kharian based travel agency for Europe by crossing the border of Pakistan illegally. According to the information received here, the FIA got a tip-off that seven people were booked by different travel agents for Europe and will set on their journey from Shahzad Travel Kharian.
Initially, a spokesman of the agency said it emerged that the accused agents had planned to send some people to Lahore through a van No LES-09933 for onward proceeding to Quetta. He said the plan was to get them in to Iran after crossing the Pakistani border illegally and then after passing through Turkey to dispatch them to Greece. Acting on a tip-off, the FIA constituted a team, headed by Assistant Director FIA Gujrat, Muhammad Sarwar and conducted a raid and intercepted the Hiace LES-9933 opposite Police Station FIA Gujrat Rehmania and offloaded the passengers and recorded their statement, he added. According to the spokesman, the victims disclosed that they paid Rs 130,000 to different agents to reach Europe through land route. He said an FIR No 356/2017 dated 21-11-2017 under section 17 (1) 22(b) EO 1979 3/4 HTO 2002 has been registered at the FIA police station Gujrat.
