The Punjab police have earned an estimated amount of Rs 1.897 billion by fining over 5,367,029 vehicles during the last 10 months of the current year which is 9.72 percent higher as compared to the previous year. Punjab DIG Traffic Muhammad Farooq Mazhar told media persons that violation of traffic rules have also witnessed a surge of 4.3 percent as compared to the previous year. He said they had arrested over 35,828 drivers for violation of traffic rules during the last 10 months.
The DIG Traffic also revealed that from January to October, more than 5,367,029 fine tickets had been issued to traffic violators which are 7.14 percent more than the last year. Likewise, he said, the violators were also fined up to Rs 1.897 billion which is 9.72 more than the last year.
"To take control over the emerging situation of violations, we have launched a special campaign against juvenile drivers, blue lights, green number plates, tainted glasses and fake number plates and one wheeling," he maintained. DIG Farooq further said that joint checking of oil tankers and unauthorized number plates have also been carried out on weekly and monthly basis. He said the violators had incurred huge fines and cases have been lodged against them.
