Turkey's TMO seeks to buy 96,000 tonnes of corn

26 Nov, 2017

Turkey's state grain board TMO bought about 96,000 tonnes of corn in international tenders which closed on Thursday, traders said. The TMO had issued eight separate tenders each of 12,000 tonnes, traders said. The TMO reserved the right to purchase 20 percent more or less than the tender volumes. Trading house Tiryaki Agro sold six 12,000 tonne consignments at 708 Turkish lira ($180.61) a tonne c&f for shipment to the ports of Derince and Marmara, traders said.
Erser Group sold two 12,000 tonne consignments at 709 Turkish lira ($180.87) a tonne c&f also for shipment to Derince and Marmara. Origin is optional but loading requirements in practice limit the possible supplier countries, traders said.
Loading may be done only at ports in the Black Sea, Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, except southern Cyprus and Syria. Two loading ports and one country of origin must be declared in the signing of the contract. Shipment was sought between November 29 and December 12. Turkey is currently highly active in the global grain market. The TMO also bought about 230,000 tonnes of European milling wheat in a tender on Friday, and about 113,400 tonnes of corn and 48,000 tonnes of feed barley on Tuesday. Other tenders for rice have also been issued.
