Tevta to award laptops to outshining students: chairman

Chairman Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has said that TEVTA will award laptops and other prizes to the 600 outshining students of more than 400 technical colleges located across the Punjab. While addressing a meeting here on Thursday at TEVTA Secretariat Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has said that Board Meeting of TEVTA has decided that those students who will grab good percentages in examination as well as grab top positions in Annual Examination of Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE) will be rewarded. These rewards will be laptop for toppers and other cash prizes for other position holders and students getting good percentages, he told.
Irfan also informed the meeting that therefore 400 colleges under TEVTA and among these colleges the awards will be given to 252 students of Diploma in Associate Engineering (DAE) which is being offered in 28 trades, 126 students of two years diploma program, 108 students of one year diploma, 72 students of two year vocational diploma and 36 students of one year vocational diploma. He also announced that students grabbing top three positions in PBTE annual examination will be awarded special prizes.
Irfan said that this decision was taken to acknowledge to hard work of students who spent day and night to excel among others. He added that by awarding good performers competition will increase and this eventually boost students moral. The outshining students are pride of TEVTA who not only in Pakistan but globally represent TEVTA and build good image, he further told.
Chairman TEVTA also said that now the time has changed as people now prefer technical education over conventional education. There is more room in the jobs of technical education and a person having such expertise can earn two times more than a person getting conventional education, he said. He explained that this is the reason that in last three years, number of TEVTA graduates remained 200,000 per year which is highest in South Asia as no other countries has achieved this milestone.
TEVTA is not only focusing on quality but quality is also being improved as for this purpose TEVTA is establishing a university in collaboration with Chinese university, he said adding that in that university 80 percent quota has been specified for DAE students.
