09 Dec, 2017

The Supreme Court on Friday directed Pakistan State Oil (PSO) administration to regularize 208 employees who have been serving on contract basis and also ordered payment of their dues. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar Amir and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was hearing the appeal filed by PSO against the Sindh High Court's verdict regarding the regularization of contracted employees at its Karachi registry.
During the hearing the CJP remarked that unfortunately companies including big enterprises don't regularize the employees in fact the hiring was being made through thee contractor, PPI reported. The court observed that it was very sad that companies do not bother to own the workers who give them the golden years of their life. Instead of giving the workers' their rights, the companies file cases in the courts to avoid the same.
The employees' counsel Shua-un-Nabi informed the court that these contractual employees have been serving for last 30 years with full dedication yet they were not regularized. He said that the employees had no other remedy to approach the court for redressal of their grievances, PPI reported. While directing PSO to regularize 208 contract employees, the apex court also ordered payment of all dues of the employees.
