Renewed buying by mills on tight supply of seed cotton

10 Dec, 2017

A kind of panic buying was witnessed on the cotton market on Saturday on hovering fears of decline in supply of seed cotton, dealers said. The official spot rate was unchanged at Rs 6,600, they said. In ready session, over 35,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 6400-7000, they said.
In Sindh, seed cotton prices were same at Rs 2700-3200, in the Punjab, rates also held the overnight levels at Rs 2700-3300, as per 40 kg, they said. According to some analysts, short supply of seed cotton created an uncertainty among the buyers.
Cotton analyst, Naseem Usman observed that trading activity improved after an alarming situation in Maharashtra, one of the leading cotton growing states of India, where crop damaged due to pest attack. As a whole, prices may maintain stable trend as a result of strong demand by spinners, experts said.
On the other hand, the Plant Protection Department (PPD) has stated that No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued to spinners for import of cotton from India, other analysts said. Dollar's sudden rise in the inter-bank market, keeping traders jitter, most of them were trying to lay hand as much as they can, they observed.
