Normal trading activity could not pick up on the cotton market owing to light rains in the country on Monday, dealers said. The official spot rate was unchanged at Rs 6,600, they said. In the ready session, 12000 bales of cotton change hands between Rs 6300-7050, they said. In Sindh, seed cotton prices were same at Rs 2700-3200, in the Punjab, rates also held the overnight levels at Rs 2700-3300, as per 40 kg, they said.
According to the market sources, most of the leading participants were on the sidelines due to lack of interest. Commenting on the tight supply of cotton import from India is so difficult under the circumstances. A lot of conditions are there in import of cotton and whereas quality of cotton is also not encourage buyers to lay hands, he said.
The following deals reported: 800 bales of cotton from Ghotki at Rs 7050, 400 bales from Dherki at Rs 7050, 400 bales from Mirpur Mathelo at Rs 7050, 2000 bales from Rohri at Rs 6500/6700, 1600 bales from Saleh Pat at Rs 6550/6750, 2200 bales from Haroonabad at Rs 6450, 2400 bales from Rahim Yar Khan at Rs 6875/7000, 600 bales from Khanewal at Rs 6300, 1200 bales from Mianwali at Rs 6300 and 1000 bales from Layyah at Rs 6300, they said.
