US Consul General in Lahore Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau called on Punjab Minister for Labour & Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar at his office on Thursday. During the meeting, different matters of mutual interest including promotion of Pak-US relations and control on the issue of human trafficking along with welfare of the labour community came under discussion. Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary (South and Central Asian Affairs) David Ranz was also present on the occasion.
Talking on the occasion, Provincial Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said that the Punjab government had taken effective steps to control human trafficking and added that provincial government was in continuous contact with the federal government so that this menace could be eradicated with effective utilization of relevant laws.
He apprised the US Consul General about the steps taken for the promotion of education in the province and added that the Punjab government had opened the doors of education to children belonging to low income families. He said more than 2.5 million deserving male and female students were getting school education through the platform of the Punjab Education Foundation.
