It is quite heartening to note that the 16th meeting of the National Security Committee chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has decided to finalize country's security policy after taking all the stakeholders on board.
The Secretary Interior apprised the committee of the progress made in each of the 20 areas of the national Action Plan (NAP). The committee observed that while fair progress had been made in the implementation of the NAP, certain areas, such as policy and institutional reforms, needed more commitment and attention.
The committee seems to have made an unfair assessment insofar as the implementation of NAP is concerned. The civilian leadership is responsible for non-implementation of key areas of NAP. Its complacency in relation to the NAP seems to have deepened after the July 28, 2017 Supreme Court verdict against the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
