UoP reduces tuition fees after protest

Following two-week long protest and staging a 'sit in' by students against increase in various type of fees, the administration of the University of Peshawar (UoP) reduced admission fee of various programs and issued a new fee list here on Thursday.
According to a notification, under the new list, the admission fees for various programs were reduced for 2017-18 sessions. As per the new list, hostel fee was reduced from Rs 26,200 to Rs 23,800. The fee of MS, MPhil and PhD has been reduced from Rs 46,000 to Rs 41,800. Likewise, fee for MA semester has been reduced from Rs 43,000 to Rs 39,000.
The notification said the self-finance scheme fees have also been reduced up to Rs 10,000. Following the notification, the students said that the UoP administration had taken 10 percent hike in fees which is praiseworthy. The students of various departments of the UoP have been protesting for more than two weeks.
They had setup a sit in camp in front of the administration bloc of the university demanding reduction in the free. The other day, the UoP's Syndicate meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Asif Khan approved the reduction in the fees for various programs and hostel fee.
