Pakistan gets its first batch of certified energy auditors trained by a leading international certifying agency associated with the UNIDO project. UNIDO (United National Industrial Development Organization), under its Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Project, has successfully concluded the first training programme of Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), conducted locally by foreign trainers from the United States' energy certifying institute, the Association of Energy Engineers.
This training module is part of a larger UNIDO training programme under a project named "Sustainable Energy Initiative for Industries in Pakistan." It was funded by the Global Environment Facility, and was in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change. Two batches consisting of 22 professionals, including three women professionals from energy service companies, industry, and academia, and government departments dealing with energy efficiency, attended the trainings, to become CEA's.
The two-weeks training programme was conducted in collaboration with Faisalabad campus of Lahore's University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and Karachi's Alkaram Textile Mills, which contributed in the program by hosting the three days' training at their facilities. The training will provide an impetus to the promotion of energy efficiency systems and technologies, through bringing energy audit protocols up to international levels.
