The Scientific Panel of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has imposed ban on preparation and sale of all kind of Chooran (a flavored, chemically treated edible salt) as it is the major cause of ulcer. The Scientific Panel took this decision after research found that Choran is dangerous for health. Director General PFA Noor ul Amin Mengal said that the Non Food Grade Tartaric Acid is found in the Choran which can cause stomach and other diseases.
He said it is mostly eaten by children who are most affected by the diseases caused by it. The ban has been imposed as per PFA Act 2011 for the betterment of health of general public, he added. DG PFA also warned the people linked with the Choran business including preparation and selling to stop making and selling this injurious material, otherwise strict action will be taken against them.
