Prices of essential kitchen items witness mixed trend

Prices of important kitchen items witnessed a mixed trend during this week past against the preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Sunday. The survey observed that the prices of most of the vegetables as well as of chicken, eggs, non-perishable items, including wheat flour, rice, spices and others remained stable during this week.
A considerable increase in price of chicken meat was witnessed as being sold at Rs 220 per kilogram in retail market, which was selling at Rs 185 per kilogram during the previous week, the survey noticed. It further said that since the increasing chill weather, the demand of eggs has been increased which ultimately pushed their price to manifold in retail market, as dozen of farm eggs are being sold at Rs 140-130, which was selling at Rs 120 per dozen during the last week. One-kilogram sugar is being sold at Rs 55 in retail market, showing an increase of Rs 2 per kg in retail market, the survey noticed.
The survey witnessed a mix trend in prices of food grains, as some items have registered increase while other stable in retail market. Price of one-kilogram big white channa has remained stable as available at Rs 190 per kg, while small size at Rs 170 per kg in retail market, while dal mash is being sold at Rs 140 per kg against the Rs 160 per kg during previous week, the survey noticed, while dal channa priced at Rs 120 per kg in retail market.
Likewise, the survey witnessed a good quality sela rice has decreased at Rs 130 per kg against the Rs 140 per kg in local market, while toota rice priced at Rs 70 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 80 per kg during the preceding week. Price of gram flour (baisen) has decreased in retail market as being sold at Rs 120 per kg, which was selling at Rs 130 per kg during the previous week. Red bean is being available in different rates in retail market, as Rs 170, Rs 140 and Rs 120 per kg.
White lobiya priced at Rs 120 per kilogram in retail market. Dal green is being available at Rs 120 per kilogram, moonge at Rs 120 per kg, dal masoor at Rs 100 per kg. Prices of all brand and quality of cooking oil/ghee were remained unchanged, the survey noticed.
According to survey, price of ginger has decreased at Rs 200 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 300 per kilogram during the previous week. While, the one-kilogram garlic has increased at Rs 160 per kilogram, against the price of Rs 100 per kg a few days back, the survey noticed.
Tomato is another most important daily use item of kitchen, which is being sold at Rs 40 per kilogram against Rs 60 per kg in local market, while onion priced at Rs 60 and Rs 70 per kg in retail market. Green chili is being sold at Rs 100 per kg, while lemon at Rs 50 per kg. Ladyfinger at Rs 80 per kilogram, calabash at Rs 40 per kilogram, kaddo at Rs 50 per kg, arvi at Rs 40 per kg, cabbage at Rs 40 per kg, cauliflower at Rs 50 per kg, red potato at Rs 40 per kg, and white potato at Rs 30 per kg in retail market, the survey noticed.
Butchers are defying the official rates, and selling cow meat at exorbitant rate in retail market, according to which cow beef is being available at Rs 300, Rs 320 and Rs 340 per kilogram. Mutton is being sold at Rs 700 and Rs 750 per kilogram in retail market.
Fruits are staple food, which is also reaching out purchasing power of the common man, as prices have registered 'sky-high' in retail market. According to survey, apple is being sold at Rs 120 and Rs 150 per kg, pomegranate at Rs 150 per kg, grapes at Rs 100 per kg, guava at Rs 80 per kg, banana at Rs 50 and Rs 80 per dozen.
The survey noticed that fresh milk is being sold at Rs 100 and Rs 120 against the official fixed rate of Rs 80 per litre. Yogurt is being available at Rs 100 and Rs 110 per kg. Good quality black tea is being available at Rs 350 per kg and Rs 400 per kg, green tea at Rs 250 per kg, a one kilogram pack of milk powder at Rs 700 in retail market.
