Dense fog disrupts rail & road traffic

As weather remained cold and dry in most parts of the country on Wednesday, a thick layer of fog and severe cold has gripped Punjab and upper parts of the country including mountainous areas of Baluchistan dropping the minimum temperature to: Skardu -10, Astore -9°C, Gilgit, Hunza -07°C, Quetta, Gupis -08°C, Kalam, Bagrote, Ziarat, Dir -05°C, Lower Dir, Parachinar, Rawalakot, Bunji, Drosh-02°C ,Risalpur, Mirkhani, Pattan, Dalbandin -01°C, Islamabad 01°C, Lahore 04°C, Karachi 10°C, Peshawar 02°C, Chitral 03°C, Muzaffarabad 05°C, Murree 0°C, Multan 05°C and Hyderabad 09°C.
Dense fog prevailed over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during night and morning hours disrupting flow of traffic on M2 Islamabad-Lahore, M2-2 Salt Range to Pindi Bhattian, M2-3 Pindi Bhattian to Lahore, M3 Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad, N5-2A Kharian to Gujranwala, N5-2B Gujranwala to Lahore, N5-3 Lahore to Okara, N5-3 Lahore to Multan, N5-4A Multan to Bahawalpur, N5-3B Okara to Mian Channu, N5-3C Mian Channu to Multan, N5-4 Multan to R Y Khan, N5-4B Bahawalpur to R Y Khan, and N5-5 R Y Khan to Sukkar.
In its daily weather report, the Met office said that a shallow westerly wave is likely to approach northwestern parts of the country on Thursday and may persist in next 24 hours.
Weather forecast for today: Rain-thunderstorm (with snowfall over the hills) is expected at scattered places in Malakand, Hazara divisions and at isolated places in Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Quetta, Zhob divisions, Islamabad, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Dense fog is likely to prevail over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during night and morning hours.
Weather forecast for next 48 hours: Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain-thunderstorm (with snow fall over the hills) is expected at few places in Malakand, Hazara divisions. Dense fog is likely to prevail over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during night and early morning hours.
