Exporters and chambers have approached the Finance Division over the blockage of highways by sugarcane trolleys, creating problems for timely export of consignments. Sources in the Finance Ministry stated that exporters and chambers have approached Minister of State for Finance, Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan urging him to resolve the issue.
In response to their request, the state minister for finance wrote a letter to the inspector general of police, Punjab, inspector general of police, Sindh, and inspector general of police, National Highways and Motorway, Islamabad.
Rana Muhammad Afzal stated, "Exporters and chambers of commerce and industry have brought into my notice that in view of blockage of highways by sugarcane trolleys, the export consignments are not reaching ports in time and causing inordinate financial loss." The letter further stated that it is requested that as the sugarcane season is going to last for two more months, therefore, appropriate arrangements be made to ensure smooth flow of exports to the ports.
